Samsung Mobile has announced that it is working to make its phone tougher and could redesign the body to make it water and dust-proof.

A senior Samsung official made the announcement in Dubai while speaking to the media on the occasion of the unveiling of its latest Galaxy S4 in the Middle East on Tuesday.

The official however did not reveal the timeline for the release of the phone but another official indicated that we could expect it in 2014.

There were indications that Samsung could be working on redesigning its next phone in the series, especially following the success of HTC One.

HTC One, with its solid aluminium build, is already worrying Samsung and the company is said to be planning to use a higher quality metal design for its upcoming Galaxy Note 3 smartphone.

Hayssam Yassine, Head of Telecommunications Group at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said the company is also working on several new technologies and they would be introduced in due course.

According to him, Samsung had become the number one manufacturer in terms of smartphone sales in the UAE.

According to him, the mobile phone division of Samsung has been growing by 200 to 250 per cent year-on-year.

“In the UAE alone, we hold about 48 per cent share of all smartphone sales and we expect to exceed this figure when it comes to the New Galaxy S4. Samsung also registered a first quarter growth of 95 per cent compared to the same period last year across the Gulf. Apart from the UAE, Samsung is also number one in Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar,” he added.
